The Journey
Our Romania off-road trip begins with our arrival at a very special and comfortable place: a small, quaint guesthouse near Sibiu/Sibiel, nestled in the gentle hills of Transylvania. Here, you immediately feel the warmth of Romania, family-like, warm, and inviting.
In the evening, we come together for a shared meal, where we are treated to traditional Romanian cuisine: hearty specialties such as Sarmale, Mămăligă with Brânză, and of course a glass of homemade Țuică for a toast.
In a cozy circle, we all get to know each other, exchange first stories, and feel that a real off-road adventure lies ahead of us.
Our Romania off-road trip begins with our arrival at a very special and comfortable place: a small, rustic guesthouse near Sibiu/Sibiel, nestled in the gentle hills of Transylvania. Here, you immediately feel the warmth of Romania: familial, warm, and inviting. In the evening, we gather for a communal dinner, where we are treated to traditional Romanian cuisine: hearty specialties like Sarmale, Mămăligă with Brânză (cheese), and of course, a glass of homemade Țuică to toast. In a cozy setting, we get to know each other, exchange the first stories, and feel that a true off-road adventure lies ahead of us.
After a cozy start to the day, we begin our adventure around 10:00 AM - just like in the coming days. But before we really get going, we make a quick stop at a traditional Romanian weekly market. Surrounded by handmade goods, fresh vegetables, cheese from the Carpathians, and warm encounters with the locals, we buy the last supplies for the road - a travel day couldn't start more authentically :-). Then we finally set off: on lonely paths, accompanied by the rustling of a crystal-clear stream, we immerse ourselves in the wild nature of the Cindrel Mountains. The scenery becomes more spectacular with every kilometer. Away from the usual routes, we experience our first real off-road adventures: narrow forest trails, rocky ascents, magnificent views - and the feeling of being completely free.
Today we dedicate ourselves entirely to the Cindrel Mountains - one of the most original and simultaneously fascinating regions of Transylvania in the Carpathians. On lonely pistes and remote trails, we explore the hidden corners of this wild mountain landscape. Along the way, we repeatedly encounter shepherds with their flocks of sheep, who still live and work here as they did centuries ago. The calm, decelerated atmosphere and the ringing of the bells create an almost meditative sound carpet - pure authentic Romania. Time and again, enchanting panoramic views open up to us, inviting us to pause, marvel, and of course, photograph. Wide valleys, gentle hills, dense forests - and above it all, just the vast sky. A day to breathe, enjoy, and immerse ourselves in another world.

Today we say goodbye to the Cindrel Mountains, as a new, equally impressive section of our journey awaits us. After a short asphalt stage, we change regions and immerse ourselves in the Western Carpathians, also known as Muntii Apuseni. The mountains have a nearly circular outline with a diameter of about 130 to 150 km. It is bordered by the rivers Mureș (Hungarian Maros), Someș, and Barcău and reaches peak heights between 1,100 and 1,800 m. The landscape changes noticeably: the Transylvanian Ore Mountains welcome us with open heights, rugged rock formations, and wide views. We keep stopping to enjoy the panoramas - there are photo opportunities here every minute. A real highlight of the day is the stretch at Gemsenstein - narrow, adventurous paths, set against dramatic backdrops. With a bit of luck, we might even spot the namesake of this place: wild chamois, skillfully moving over the steep rocks.
Today, our adventure takes us deep into the land of the Moți (Motzenland) - that is how the proud, tradition-conscious inhabitants of this remote region of the Western Carpathians have been called for centuries. The area seems wild, primal, and mysterious. We take a short hike through a spectacular canyon, whose narrow rock walls are crossed by a cool, crystal-clear brook. The scenery is impressive and feels almost like from another world, where the soul finds peace and at the same time the spirit of discovery is awakened. A special cultural highlight awaits us shortly after: the visit to a monastery from the 13th century, which lies hidden in the mountains. The ancient walls, the silence, and the history that becomes tangible here leave a lasting impression. Our overnight spot is in a dreamlike location, at the foot of the "Sleeping Giant," a distinctive mountain massif that fills the legends of this region with life. Here our day ends.
For the grand finale of our comfort journey, the Western Carpathians await us in all their glory: Today we will traverse dreamy mountain paths, past green alpine meadows, rugged rocks, and wide valleys. The landscape appears almost surreal – one last time we get to fully enjoy this incredible natural backdrop. We follow panoramic routes with breathtaking views, which invite us time and again to stop, marvel, and take a deep breath. In between, charming off-road passages provide driving fun and a sense of adventure. With every kilometer, it becomes clearer: We have experienced Romania up close – with all its facets. The hospitality of the people, the depth of the culture, and the magical landscape have left their mark. It was more than just a journey – it was a true experience for the heart, soul, and spirit of adventure.
